Abstract
Social media have become a standard element in police work worldwide. This chapter provides an overview of the ways police forces employ social media from open source intelligence (OSINT) and community engagement to crisis communication. It further addresses a range of operational and ethical issues the use of social media raises when used by law enforcement agencies.
