Abstract
The Island of Puerto Rico has a population of over 3.5 million. Approximately three million Puerto Ricans live in the mainland US; more than half live in the northeastern US. They self-identify as Puertorri-queños or Boricua (the Taíno Indian word for Puerto Rican) or Niuyoricans for those born in New York. Diversity among Puerto Ricans includes assimilation, individuality, and the variant characteristics of culture as presented in Chap. 1.
