Image-guided Laser Ablation

Abstract

Most patients with pancreatic cancer (PC) suffer from an unresectable tumor at the time of diagnosis with limited treatment effectiveness. Laser ablation (LA) is a new tool to fight PC and liver and thyroid tumors. The use of bare-tip thin fibers enables PC treatment in difficult and at-risk locations. Initial studies of case reports investigating the feasibility and safety of locally advanced and metastatic LA for PC have shown that this minimally invasive technique is useful and safe in patients with unresectable PC. It could be a promising alternative to surgery in selected cases in the future, gaining more experience.
