Handbook of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Pediatric Medical Conditions

Abstract

The Triple Aim of health care emphasizes the simultaneous pursuit of enhancing patients’ experience of care, improving population health outcomes, and decreasing per capita costs. Integrated behavioral health is largely accepted as a critical component for achieving the Triple Aim. Pediatric psychologists as well as behavioral health providers are uniquely skilled at addressing the psychosocial challenges that present in pediatric medical settings. This chapter first examines integrated behavioral health-care models in both pediatric primary and specialty care settings. Next, a review of common psychological and behavioral health problems that arise in pediatric medical settings is presented. The value of pediatric psychologists in integrated care settings concludes the chapter.
