Abstract
Children with epilepsy experience adjustment and coping issues related to being diagnosed with a chronic illness. They are also at increased risk for comorbid attention problems, anxiety, and depression. Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES), events that involve symptoms that may appear to be seizures but do not have associated epileptic brain activity, often represent a diagnosis of conversion disorder. PNES are typically very impairing and require psychological treatment. This chapter will provide an overview of the cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches for youth with epilepsy and PNES and highlight the treatment components with a case example.
