Genomics of Pain and Co-Morbid Symptoms

Abstract

Chronic orofacial pain, including temporomandibular joint disorder, was once thought to arise from dental malocclusion and muscle spasms. Clinical research on the etiology of chronic orofacial pain has refuted this traditional belief and is now focused on identifying the risk factors and potential targets for treatment. This chapter provides an overview of current research on chronic orofacial pain and findings on the genetic contribution to its etiology and treatment.
