Abstract

Unlike the EMT in vertical drilling discussed in Chap. 2, which can be simplified as an axisymmetric structure, EMT for directional and horizontal drilling are complicate 3D systems. More specifically, as one compares the spatial dimensions of the entire computational domain (tens of thousands of feet) and the fine details such as the gap source in the borehole (a fraction of an inch), the EMT system can be considered as an extremely multiscale structure.
