2D Modeling of Electromagnetic Telemetry

Abstract

In this chapter we will discuss the modeling of electromagnetic telemetry in vertical wells, whose schematic is shown in Fig. 2.1. A transmitter in this wireless communication system is near the drill bit implemented as a voltage gap source or a toroid, which can be viewed in numerical analysis as an electric dipole or as a magnetic current source circulating the drill string, respectively.
