Abstract

Our studies in ill condensed matter have been limited to noninteracting systems. In this chapter we will study an interesting interacting model—the paradigmatic Kondo effect. Here the system is rendered ill due to an external impurity. As was discussed in Chap. 1 Kondo effect has had a long history and many facets of this physics is now well understood. The question we address in this chapter is–what happens to Kondo effect, if the metal is spin-orbit coupled?

For convenience, a constant \(\lambda ^2/2\) is added to \(\varepsilon _\alpha \) as we will see later.
