Abstract
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) can initially present with inflammatory bowel disease and progress to a picture of humoral immunodeficiency
-
The laboratory diagnosis of CVID requires at least two classes of antibodies to be subnormal, including IgG, and most typically IgG and IgA
-
Antibody analyses should also indicate failure to mount good post-vaccination responses
-
Immunodeficiency and autoimmunity are not the opposites as previously though, but are now know to share multiple genes, as a consequence, autoimmunity may appear before symptoms of immunodeficiency
