Inquiry and Research Skills for Language Teachers

Abstract

This chapter sustains the research engagement of pre-service teachers by guiding them to understand the puzzle which they have been trying to unpack and understand. It highlights that understanding puzzles is just the beginning of professional development. The chapter therefore introduces the ways in which pre-service teachers can see the emerging and unfolding picture and think about the ways in which the results might contribute to the unpacking of the puzzle and of their understandings of teaching and learning. The chapter ends by discussing what the results of the puzzle exploration mean to them, how pre-service teachers can disseminate their understandings of the puzzle as well as how the experience of puzzle exploration can help them develop as a pre-service teacher.
