Abstract
Functionally, the vertebral system is involved in postural equilibrium and bodily mobility. It is an essential part of the musculoskeletal system. Its multilevel organization is complex (tissue, cell, and neurological modules). The tremendous development of vertebral imaging (CT, MRI, and EOS) has tended to obscure the clinical and psycho-socio-professional parameters in decision-making, at the risk of underestimating the effects of surgical treatments. In the future, a better knowledge of the function of the vertebral column can come from the study of walking, numerical modeling, and techniques used by automation engineers.
