Abstract

Cervical corpectomy is a long-standing cervical decompression technique that involves resection of the cervical vertebral body. Cervical corpectomy affords access to the retrovertebral space and the posterior vertebral cortices. Due to the extent of required bony resection, cervical corpectomy has an increased risk of vertebral artery injury relative to discectomy and fusion. Cervical corpectomy is also more prone to mechanical failure due to the longer moment arm of the reconstruction. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the indications and techniques for cervical corpectomy.
