Abstract
This brief chapter includes general considerations in ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous needle biopsies of the breast, including deciding whether to perform a biopsy and who should perform it; the three fundamental steps of a US-guided percutaneous needle biopsy; target selection and timing of the biopsy; the critical role of communication with the pathologist; and reasons for the epidemic of US-guided breast biopsies.
