Abstract

This chapter summarizes a few general guidelines and recommendations, most of which reflect common sense, that should facilitate the learning of novice breast imagers and should also be followed by seasoned practitioners to guarantee the success of ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsy. These include preliminary practice of the trainee on phantoms, careful biopsy target selection, frequent communication with the pathologist, teamwork with the other breast care providers, concordance between the imaging findings and the biopsy result, and the detailed and complete reporting of the procedure.
