Abstract

Reflecting on my personal experiences teaching Introduction to International Relations for the first time, I describe how I came to realize that my teaching philosophy essentially mirrors my favorite game show—The Price Is Right. In this chapter, I discuss how I used elements from The Price Is Right, both in terms of its attitude and its specific game play, to help me get comfortable teaching a course that is both foundational for students majoring in political science and international relations and a general-education elective for others. Rather than providing a how-to guide for teaching a course, this chapter charts how I found a way to put my teaching philosophy into practice in a way that authentically reflects me and my values.
