Abstract
The paper analyzes the existing methods for processing municipal solid waste and proposes an optimal method (using the example of Voronezh, Russia). The main provisions that form the environmental policy in relation to municipal solid waste are given. It is part of the general policy of increasing energy and resource saving in the field of consumption and reducing man-made impacts on people and nature. The analysis of modern technologies for the municipal solid waste recycling is presented, ensuring maximum regeneration of energy and material resources spent on waste generation with their full safety for the population and nature. Disposal of municipal solid waste at the landfill as the least expensive technology and fairly safe for the environment is one of the key areas of development of the sanitation and cleaning system in Voronezh.
