Abstract
The Russian economy is looking for new development trends in the market environment. Objectives: energy conservation and energy efficiency, minimal environment impact, social development focus, accessibility in any part of the country. Scientific and technological progress provides for new technologies to fulfill these objectives. One of them is application of renewable energy sources. However, their effective application is associated with a large number of different problems. The trends and issues of renewable energy development were analyzed, as well as ways to solve the issues identified in the Russian context were proposed.
