Abstract

If anything typifies the Europe of today, it is the endemic distrust between citizens, states, political parties, and political leaders. Any regeneration of Europe, therefore, must start by thinking about the sources of trust in Europe. And there is reason for optimism. By looking at how trust is created, we can see that trust between Europeans has probably never been higher. The problem of trust is not its absence, but how it has been (and can be) institutionalised within the European project of integration.
