Abstract

What happened to the EU? How did an aspirational and progressive project become a monolith run by technocrats with a penchant for economic stability? How can we save Europe from the EU? The starting point for even thinking about the answers to these questions must be to distinguish between what Europe is and what the EU is. The latter is an increasingly poor institutional echo of the former. But how can we bring ‘Europe’ back in? How can the EU regain the support from its citizens? This book sets out a theoretical and a practical roadmap for this complicated journey.
