Abstract

Chronic kidney disease increases perioperative morbidity and mortality. The major cause of morbidity in patients with chronic kidney disease is cardiovascular complications but they are also at high risk for fluid and electrolyte disturbances, bleeding, and hyper- or hypotension. With appropriate medication adjustments, toxin avoidance, fluid and electrolyte monitoring, anemia treatment, and blood pressure management, patients with chronic kidney disease can safely undergo surgery.
