Abstract
Surgery is commonly performed every day throughout the world, with a growing number of procedures in medically complex patients. Both surgery and anesthesia have inherent risks, and medicine consultants are often involved in the perioperative evaluation and management of surgical patients to help reduce perioperative risks. Models of perioperative medical care include consultative and co-management, with an increasing number of healthcare systems focusing on co-management services.
