Abstract
In the chapter the transformation of the electricity sector towards its newer, enhanced incarnation is described. The associated concepts of the smart grid, the Internet of Energy and other relevant topics are explained. These concepts derive from the great adoption of Information and Communication Technologies, which introduce multiple benefits, but also cybersecurity challenges. The notion of cybersecurity is explained and disambiguated from information security. The critical infrastructure component of the sector is highlighted.
