Abstract

Mulligan intervenes in regard to (post)imperial cultural geographies like the Green Atlantic by charting mixed-linguistic, theologically syncretive, and cross-cultural traditions that reassess impact-, contact-, and borderzones of literature, music, and art in the context of environmental landscape studies. Such a reframing of “geofeminism” allows her to reconsider the role of representational mapping for both men and women artists in Ireland and throughout the diaspora and to redress the significant absence of transhistorical, comparative studies not only of texts but material culture in both Irish and English. Arranged thematically and epistemologically to allow her to move across and within periods of Irish history to better mark the uneven development and unexpected recrudescence of indigenous and diasporic modernity, the works she will address concern discourses around regional identities in Ireland and throughout the diaspora as well as question the positionality of gendered bodies in art, religion, and social practice.
