Abstract
As conclusion for the book, this chapter examines the political consequences resulting from the three layers model. The matter is turned upside down by arguing that (1) it is framed in nonmetric terms exclusively and (2) it is worth deconstructing/reconstructing it by reopening the metric/nonmetric distinction and re-evaluating politics from both sides. The nonmetric conception of politics is grounded in substantialism since it instructs us to pledge ourselves to one category or another as supreme ideal (freedom, equality, etc.). On the other hand, the metric conception of politics is indicative of relationalism as alternative approach. Political effects are redefined nonnormatively in light of the various impacts that the many different forms in social reality have on each other. From the perspective of nonmetric politics, it appears as though metric politics is lacking something. But this only goes to show that there is a blind spot in nonmetric politics.
