Abstract
Gluteal or buttock pain can arise from muscles located in this region. These muscles include piriformis, obturator internus, and quadratus femoris. Important neurovascular structures including the sciatic nerve and the superior and inferior gluteal arteries are in intimate contact with these muscles. Injections of local anesthetic, steroids, or botulinum toxin into these muscles or their bursa can confer analgesic benefit, while use of ultrasound for procedural guidance enhances accuracy and safety.
