Abstract
We define the central concepts of this book. Namely the endotrivial and endo-permutation modules, and the group of endotrivial modules. We present the subject following the historical development of the theory of endotrivial and endo-permutation modules, starting with the results obtained by E. Dade in the late 70s. We also present some key examples of endotrivial modules.
