Abstract

As surgical procedures continue to become increasingly complex and technological advances are implemented at a dizzying pace, effective collaboration among intraoperative team members remains an important way to decrease preventable errors and increase patient safety. Central to collaborative care is good communication. Multiple studies in recent years have identified communication failure as a causative factor in serious errors that resulted in injury or death.
