Abstract

Main pulmonary artery occlusion from chronic thromboembolic disease can rarely be the cause for non-perfusion of an entire lung. Careful evaluation of alternative and more common causes for this finding is essential. For those patients with chronic thromboembolic disease, thromboendarterectomy may result in lung reperfusion. However, the achievement of this outcome may be impacted by the extent of collateral systemic blood flow and duration of main pulmonary artery occlusion.
