Abstract

Nowadays, the use of nanotechnology in the field of renewable energy is quite interesting research topic. In this chapter, we will discuss the use of magnetic nanoparticles in the production and enhancement of biofuel, i.e., biogas, bioethanol, and biodiesel. In the case of biogas, different magnetic nanoparticles increase the production volume of biogas alongside the enhanced methane content. For bioethanol production, the number of factors is affected by magnetic nanoparticles, it enhances bioethanol production, immobilization of enzymes is carried out in the reaction mixture on the magnetic nanoparticles so that at the end of reaction the enzymes can be reused for the next cycles, and it acts as a catalyst and increase the thermal and storage stability of the enzymes. Lastly, for biodiesel production, the magnetic nanoparticles act as a catalyst to speed up the reaction as well as they are used for immobilization of enzymes in the reaction mixture.
