Abstract

Petrochemicals are used in subsequent chemical and pharmaceutical production. The raw materials come mainly from two sources: natural gas, which provides methane, ethane, propane, butane, and C5+ condensate; and crude oil, which yields methane, saturated C2-C4 hydrocarbons, C2-C4 olefins, and benzenes. Both can produce synthesis gas (syn gas) that is the feed for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to produce long chain alkanes, olefins and alcohols.
