Abstract
A detailed characterization in the form of schematic illustrations and written descriptions is required in order to reliably identify the morphological differences between the individual urinary sediment constituents. Various aspects such as origin and the particular morphological features of the respective constituents, as well as the underlying disorders, are discussed.
Urine sediment also contains an abundance of artifacts that can simulate crystals, cells, or epithelia. A list of different artifacts provides insight into how they are caused—and how to avoid them.
