Abstract

It is essential to fulfill basic quality assurance requirements at the pre-analytical stage of urine sediment diagnostics. Various aspects such as which urine sample is to be preferred, how old the urine sample is allowed to be, the correct preparation of urine sediment, as well as the correct equipment are discussed. At the same time, semi-quantitative assessment and the relationship between normal ranges and the eyepiece field number are explained.
