Abstract

This chapter focuses on learner-initiated explanations of unclear linguistic material used by the native speaker in chat, that is, repair with linguistic trouble source where the non-native speaker is the recipient of the trouble-talk. A detailed analysis of a collection of repair sequences in chat will be illustrated by multiple examples. A generalised model will be build upon the findings. The results will be discussed in comparison with recent academic publications on repair from various related disciplines.
