Abstract
Fluid replacement is a cornerstone of cardiovascular anesthesia, but may have a negative impact on the coagulation system due to hemodilution and a direct interaction with coagulation factors. Cardiopulmonary bypass priming or perioperative fluid resuscitation with different fluid types, including crystalloids, hydroxyethyl starches, and albumin, have distinct effects on the coagulation system and clinical outcomes.
