Abstract
Articular and extraarticular synovium has the main function to reduce friction. Intra-articular fluid collections are the most common sign of intra-articular pathology, which includes inflammatory, traumatic, and other pathological conditions of the hip. The serous bursae consist of a synovial membrane enveloping a fluid film. They are generally visible on sonography only in pathological conditions.
Ultrasound-guided aspiration and ultrasound-guided injection therapy of hip effusion or bursae effusion might be employed in the management of these pathologies, particularly in athletes.
