Abstract
Morel-Lavallée lesion is a post-traumatic, soft tissue degloving injury, involving separation of subcutaneous tissue from the underlying fascia; accumulation of blood, lymph, and other breakdown products; disruption of perforating blood vessels; and the creation of potential spaces.
The sonographic appearance of an acute lesion is characterized by heterogeneous, lobular, lesion with irregular margins. Chronic lesions are anechoic with well-defined margins. However, while the sonographic characteristics of Morel-Lavallée lesions are variable, the anatomic features are consistent: a fluid lesion located between subcutaneous tissue and muscle.
