Abstract
This research investigates the journey of five Tibetans from five different Tibetan areas in China towards developing bilingualism in Tibetan and Chinese at four different points in time. It is designed and presented as four case studies. This research aims to understand their different experiences in various contexts rather than focus on generalization. Therefore, this research is designed to use the ethnographic approach to study educational experiences at four points in time. Within the ethnographic paradigm, this research uses the narrative method as the main method to collect and analyse data.
Personal biographies and unique modes of thinking make it possible for individuals to experience the world in unique ways. These unique ways of experiencing make possible new forms of knowledge that keep culture viable. These new forms then become candidates for shaping the experiences of others, who in turn can use them to create even newer forms, which in turn … and so forth.
