Abstract
In this chapter, renouncing a more general presentation and focusing on the operational aspects, the Displacement Method is interpreted as a derivation of the Force Method applying in a “dual” way the compatibility and equilibrium conditions with a simple exchange of the static and geometric quantities. In this way, the standard procedure is presented, based on the use of the stiffness parameters of the beams for the formulation of the equilibrium conditions that govern the problem. In its general application, this procedure represents the most effective algorithm for the frame analysis to which the codes for computer-automated calculation conform. A thorough set of examples is presented with reference to non-sway and sway plane and spatial frames.
