Abstract
This chapter provides context for the exploration of the role of Occupational Psychology in the work of the Fire Service. A brief history of the Fire Service is first presented, exploring both historical and modern changes in capabilities and challenges. An introduction into the role of Occupational Psychology is provided, subsequently exploring how such work could impact themes surrounding emotion, decision-making, and risk within the Fire Service. Finally, an overview of the approach, key sections and individual chapters of the book are noted.
