Abstract

Coarctation of the aorta in adulthood presents as a number of clinical scenarios relating to residual coarctation from previous surgical or transcatheter therapy, undiagnosed coarctation presenting with hypertension, or the rarer complications relating to endocarditis, aneurysmal dilatation, or congestive heart failure. Today, recoarctation (and in some cases, native coarctation) is usually treated with transcatheter balloon dilation and covered stent interventions, but there are instances in which surgical therapy is preferable for various anatomic reasons.
