Abstract
This chapter introduces and defines transgender individuals, and situates the topic of transgender persons in the current national landscape (specifically with regard to recent legislation). The chapter provides facts and figures about the trans community, including population estimates and stages of gender identity development in children. The research study (on which the text is based) is presented. Methodology, data collection, and ethical dilemmas are discussed. There is an explanation of the goal of the project—to examine the early childhood education experiences of ten transgender individuals, our research partners.
