Abstract
Pediatric sleep breathing disorders (SBD) deserve attention, because it is associated with significant morbidity, potentially impacting on long-term neurocognitive and behavioral development, as well as cardiovascular outcomes and metabolic homeostasis during a critical phase of formative years. The presence of low-grade systemic inflammation and increased oxidative stress seen in this condition is believed to underpin the development of these OSA-related morbidities. Pediatric SDB deserves specific attention by those who are positioned best to screen and detect signs and symptoms of pediatric sleep breathing disorders. General dentists happen to be in that position!
