Notes

  1. 1.

The effect of hydraulic resistance on dam break waves is a complex problem which was notably tackled using analytical developments by Dressler (1952, 1954) and Whitham (1955), and experimentally by Schoklitsch (1917). However, no general analytical solution is yet known to the problem. Thus, this topic will be presented within a numerical framework in Chap. 9 using finite volume solvers of the SWE.
