Abstract
The special importance of mathematics as an interdisciplinary science has been acknowledged increasingly in engineering, technology, economy, and commerce. This process does not remain without effects on mathematics itself. The mathematical “eye for similarities” created innovative solution methods and structures arising from very different areas and distinct situations, so that the resulting theories and models may be applicable to multiple situations after appropriate adaptation and concretization.
