Abstract
In this chapter, I call for a renewed commitment to expanding access to higher education for all students, including those who struggle. True access requires greater institutional resources allocated to the work of helping all students to thrive. With the current 6-year graduation rates remaining stagnant at 59%, universities ought to have both ethical and pragmatic reasons to prioritize struggling students. That said, culture change is slow and educators cannot wait for systemic overhaul when they have students sitting in front of them this semester. Hence, this chapter concludes with concrete, practical strategies educators can employ in the short-time while working toward long-term structural improvement.
