The second part of the book focuses on Simmel’s final book The View of Life. That book is made-up of four essays. This particular chapter focuses upon the fourth and final essay in that book. This is the longest and most conceptually detail of the essays in The View of Life. This chapter provides and examination of Simmel’s understandings of the limits brought about by notions of law and of norms and expectations. The chapter looks at the relations between notions of what ought to happen and actuality. Centrally, this chapter is concerned with furthering the exploration of the types of tensions the define social life.
