Abstract

The relocation of the tenant’s group to the new building took years. The Mayor at that time, Dianne Feinstein, organized a deal that provided seed money to build a new hotel. A union provided a construction loan and the State of California provided insurance and bridge financing. By the time the building was completed some tenants were dead, some scattered but a few moved into to try and recreate the environment of self-government that the first building had had.
