Abstract

Recorded lectures help students to better prepare for exams and offer other important advantages such as time and location flexibility. With respect to existing technology many students consider the recording of lectures as a standard service provided by the university. Hence students expect that all lectures held are recorded and later accessible via a web browser and streaming technology. However, even though there exists a lot of technology supporting the recording of lectures, the introduction of an automated and integrated lecture recording system meeting all requirements of students and teachers is a non-trivial task. It needs a lot of experience and technical know-how since there are no out of the box solutions. Our system is capable to automatically record and synchronize two full HD streams of the lecturer and the slides including audio. All the recorded lessons are accessible via a standard web browser and streaming technology by the students via the university learning management system. In our paper we share lessons learned from a first pilot trial with the system, present evaluation results from the students and feedback from the teachers.
