Abstract

Nomen structure in special terminology is one of the main issues in modern linguistics. It is one of the numerous language groups which attracts interest of philologists and can be the basis for studying in the context of various professional formats. The criterion for distinguishing between a term and a nomen is the consideration of their roles in the field of special communication. For differentiation between terms and nomens, the following functions are used: identification, labeling, subjectivity, motivation, nomination, etc. Nomen structure is considered as a typical form of professional knowledge which possesses all these functions and contains grapheme and digital components, in contrast to the term. Through the application of the terminological analysis of numerous nomen structures in English pipeline terminology, an attempt is made to identify the main characteristics of nomens in professional sphere. In addition, the analysis presented in the work allows conclusions about the linguistic design of nomens and clarification of the near-and-far periphery of terminological nomenclature.
